Spanish side Albacete Balompie sign Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari

Spanish side Albacete Balompie have completed the signing of Ghana international Sulley Muntari on the transfer deadline day.

Muntari, 34, penned a one-year deal with the Segunda Division side on a free transfer with MaxFreeBets among some of the portal offering odds for the Ghanaian to help the club gain promotion to La Liga.

He sealed the contract after passing a mandatory medical and completing the formalities on Thursday.

The former Inter and AC Milan midfielder has been without a club after ending his stay with Deportivo La Coruna in July last year - where he made eight La Liga appearances in the whole season.

Albacete Balompie currently lies fourth on the La Liga 2 table with 42 points after three round of matches.

The tough-tackling midfielder is not new to Spanish football having played for Deportivo under the management of former club teammate Clarence Seedorf.

He has previously played for several top clubs in Europe including AC Milan, Inter Milan, Portsmouth, Sunderland, Udinese and Pescara.

The 2010 UEFA Champions League winner with Inter Milan is set to open another chapter in his career having previously played for Udinese, Portsmouth and Sunderland.

Muntari featured in 83 games for AC Milan scoring 13 goals and was often the subject of controversy, which included an incident of racial abuse against Verona and a disallowed goal in a crunch match against Juventus in 2012.

The Ghana midfielder joined the Saudi Arabian club on a two-year deal in 2015 as a free agent after mutually parting ways with AC Milan.

But that journey to the Asian country did not end in the right way as he had to terminate his contract with the club prematurely.

Muntari petitioned FIFA following Al-Ittihad’s inability to pay his wages and bonuses during his days at the club.

FIFA ordered the Saudi Arabian side to pay Ghana midfielder Muntari US$5million being salary arrears during his aborted stay in the Saudi Pro League.

Muntari has represented Ghana at the three FIFA World Cups - 2006, 2010 and 2014 - scoring 20 goals in 84 game outings for the West African country.
