Talent is not enough to succeed- Samuel Owusu

Black Stars winger Samuel Owusu has sounded out some advice to the upcoming professional footballers to not just rely on talent to make it to the top.

The 24 year old came into the limelight with Division one side Vision FC, earning a move to join Serbian side Radnik Surdulica in August 2014. He now plays for Saudi Arabian outfit Al Fahya.

The tricky winger made the final list of the Black Stars for the AFCON 2019 tournament and earned some minutes there. He thinks that many talented players do not succeed because they rely solely on the talent.

"Young players ought to be respectful, determined and put in an extra shift to succeed at the top level," Owusu told Vision FC media via a Zoom virtual interview.

Owusu added that his lack of football for eight months in Turkey was one of the toughest periods in his young career.

He also gave his view on the impact of racism in football, highlighting the periods he was racially abused.

"Yes I have been racially abused on a few occasions especially during my playing days in Serbia. It is obviously an unpleasant experience and you need that mental toughness to overcome it."
