Arsenal's midfield dynamo, Thomas Partey has experienced a minor setback just days after his much-anticipated return to training.

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta confirmed the news, shedding light on Partey's current situation after an absence that stretched nearly three months.

The Ghanaian maestro, whose last appearance for the Gunners dates back to October 24, 2023, was sidelined due to a persistent muscle injury that kept fans on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting news of his recovery.

Partey missed the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which is been held in Ivory Coast.

This injury setback marked the first time Partey has missed an AFCON since his debut in 2016. The midfielder had consistently featured in three consecutive AFCON tournaments – 2017, 2019, and 2021.

"Thomas Partey had a little setback a few days ago, unfortunately he’s not available," Arteta said.

"Whether it is a matter of days or weeks, we will see. He felt something again in a very similar area," he added.

The 30-year-old has made four appearances in the English Premier League this season.

The Gunners will face Liverpool at home on February 4th.
