Published on: 17 May 2017

Match Day 1 of the on-going Gabon U-17 African Cup of Nations has ended with 14 goals scored so far.

Guinea tops Group A with three points after demolishing Host, Gabon 5-1 in their opening game, Ghana follow in second with the same points but with less goals after defeating Cameroon 4-0 in Port Gentil on Sunday evening. Gabon and Cameroon occupy the third and fourth positions respectively with no points.

In Group B, Angola and Niger, who replaced Congo due to a Congolese player failure to show up for the MRI test, sit first and second with a point each after drawing 2-2 on Monday with Mali and Tanzania completing the list with one point each respectively.

In the race for Goal king, Guinea's Toure leads the table with three goals following his hattrick in his Team's 5-1 mauling of Gabon on Sunday afternoon. Ghana's duo of Eric Ayiah and Sulley Ibrahim lie second and third after scoring a brace each in Black Starlets' win over Cameroon.

Ghana and Guinea could seal a place in the last four as well as a ticket for the forthcoming U-17 World Cup in India in October if they beat Gabon and Cameroon later today.
