U-20 Women’s World Cup: We’re motivated to make a mark at tournament – Black Princess coach Yussif Basigi

Black Princesses tactician Yussif Basigi says his outfit are motivated enough to make a mark at the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be staged in Colombia.

The Black Princesses are set for their seventh consecutive World Cup participation and will be one of the four countries to represent Africa.

Ghana has failed to advance from the group stage in their six previous attempt between 2012 and 2022.

But the team are poised to break the long-standing jinx of not advancing past the group stage at the World Cup this time.

"In my case, I will say it was unfortunate that we went for the World Cup in 2018. That was the time of the expose normalisation so things were not normalised as we went there," he said.

"I wouldn't say that is an excuse though. This time round, we are motivated to go again and make a mark because we are all looking forward to breaking that jinx. So we have made the girls aware just as we, the technical staff, are also aware," he added.

The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup is scheduled to take place in Colombia from Saturday, August 31 to Sunday, September 22, 2024.

The Black Princesses are in Group E and will face off against Australia, Japan, and New Zealand.
