U23 AFCON: Black Meteors boss Ibrahim Tanko hails officiating at tournament

Published on: 29 June 2023

Black Meteors coach Ibrahim Tanko has expressed his satisfaction about officiating at the ongoing U23 AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Ghana faltered to the host country in their second group A game at the PARINCE Abdallah Stadium on Tuesday night.

Ibrahim Tanko’s side were humiliated 5-1 by Morocco, reducing their prospects of reaching the semifinals.

Some Ghanaians have raised concerns about the performance of referee Patrice Tanguay who officiated Morocco-Ghana clash. But Tanko believes officiating has been good so far at the tournament.

“I can’t say much about the performance of the referees. We had the VAR supporting them, so all the decision they took; I think is okay. I think they are doing very well”

Ghana must now win at all costs against Guinea to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Failure to beat Guinea will mean the Black Meteors will exit the U23 AFCON at the Group Stage, missing out on qualification for the Olympic Games in the process.

The game between Ghana and Guinea is scheduled to be played on Friday, June 30.
