Head coach of the Black Starlets Laryea Kingston has hailed the technical team of Ivory Coast despite falling short to the Ghana U17 team in the WAFU Zone B U17 Africa Cup of Nations opener.

The Black Starlets started the competition on a flying note after thrashing the Ivorians 5-1 at the Legon Sports Stadium.

Goals from Godfred Sarpong, Harve Gbafa, Mark Kagawa Mensah and Joseph Narbi’s brace ensured the Black Starlets cruised to an emphatic victory on Wednesday.

Speaking after the game, Kingston admitted the technical team of Ivory Coast made things difficult for his side despite succumbing to a heavy defeat and has therefore commended them.

“It’s a joy. We have to enjoy and have fun today. It wasn’t an easy game. The Ivorians are very good side and thumps up to their technical team, they did a very good job and made it difficult for us. We are a ball playing team but we are were finding it difficult to keep the ball because of the Ivorians style

“We approached the game differently, we tried to close the spaces down later part in the first half and then in the second half it worked perfectly for us. For me, I’m excited. Ghanaians should have fun because it’s a very good win against a very good side”

The Black Starlets will next Benin in their second game of the competition.
