WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations: There’s going to be pressure because Ghana is hosting – Laryea Kingston

Laryea Kingston, the head coach of Ghana’s U17 male national team, the Black Starlets, believes Ghana hosting the 2024 WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations will bring pressure to his boys.

The Black Starlets are set to commence their campaign on Wednesday, May 15, with a highly anticipated match against Cote d’Ivoire at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Following this opener, they will face off against Benin in their final group stage match six days later.

“Every game in this tournament, there's going to be pressure because we're playing in front of our family and friends,” Kingston said in ahead of the tournament.

“Definitely there is going to be pressure but we always want the pressure to make us than to break us.”

Additionally, the tournament holds significant stakes as it serves as the qualifying event for the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana's last qualification for this tournament dates back to 2017, where they reached the final but finished as runners-up.
