WAFU B U17 Nations Cup: Our game plan worked perfectly against Cote d’Ivoire – Black Starlets’ Theophilus Ayamga

Black Starlets midfielder Theophilus Ayamga says their game plan against Cote d’Ivoire in their 2024 WAFU B Cup of Nations opening game worked perfectly.

The Ghana U17 national team hammered the Baby Elephants 5-1 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Wednesday to get their competition off to a flying start.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the youngster was full of praise for how perfect their approach to the game worked.

“We came with a game plan and you could see on the field of play we dominated play and we didn’t do anything aside what they taught us; that we had to keep them on the final third, move the ball faster. That is how we dominated play.

“We came in with a game plan and it worked perfectly for us.”

Joseph Narbi bagged a brace to give the Starlets a 2-0 first half lead.  Godfred Sarpong made it three for Ghana just after the break before Côte d’Ivoire pulled one back.

However, Harve Gbafa restored the Starlets’ three goal lead with 15 minutes to go before Mark Kagawa Mensah sealed the game in stoppage time.
