WAFU U20 Championship: Nigeria beat Niger to wrap up preparations ahead of Ghana clash

Nigeria's U-20 team wrapped up their preparations for the upcoming WAFU U20 Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win against host Niger on Wednesday.

The Flying Eagles have been paired in Group B against Ghana and Burkina Faso and will hope to make impact at the tournament which starts on Saturday.

Nigeria, who have been in Niger preparing for the tournament will open their account against the Black Satellite on Sunday.

They have played two friendlies against Niger.

After a goalless draw in the first meeting, Nigeria narrowly pipped Niger in the second test game on Monday.

Flying Eagles won 1-0 and despite the narrow margin, there’s a feeling among the Coaches that the team’s cohesiveness, chemistry and fitness are all beginning to sync at a crucial time.

Both teams were drawn in Group B and will face Burkina Faso, who are the third team in the group.

Meanwhile, Niger play in Group A against Cote D’Ivoire, Benin Republic and Togo.

Two finalists will automatically qualify for the 2023 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
