World Cup 2022: Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou eyes win over Croatia

Published on: 16 December 2022

Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou is confident of securing a win over Croatia in Saturday's third-placed playoff at the Khalifa International Stadium.

The Atlas Lions lost 2-0 to holders France while Zlatko Dalic's side were well beaten by Argentina in their semi-final clash on Tuesday.

The two countries have already met at the tournament, playing out a goalless draw in their Group F opener.

"Now we will rest, then we will think, focus and prepare well, starting tomorrow in our scheduled match against Croatia, and we aspire to win and take third place in the 2022 Qatar World Cup," Bounou said.

On the France defeat, he added, "The match was never easy against the French national team. We presented great levels during the confrontations, and we did everything we had during the matches, but we were not successful in the last meeting, and this is football."

Morocco made history becoming the first African side to reach the semifinals of a FIFA World Cup, following their 1-0 win over Portugal at the quarter finals.
