World Cup 2022: Morocco's exploits in Qatar reset the mood for African football
African football will be given a new spirit by Morocco's thrilling journey to its first-ever World Cup semifinal, and this gives the continent's teams optimism for when they return in greater numbers in four years.
After the last World Cup in Russia, when none of the five nations advanced past the group stage, African football has been experiencing a morale crisis. However, this has all changed thanks to Walid Regragui's team's success in Qatar.
Morocco became the first African and Arab nation to reach the tournament's final four after defeating Belgium, Canada, Portugal, and Spain, and is now a model for other nations to follow.
Morocco topped their group, beat Portugal, Spain, Canada, Belgium, and drew with Croatia. The Atlas Lions will take on Croatia again for a third place finish on Saturday 17th December at the Khalifa International Stadium.
