World Cup 2022: Ten World Cup revelations that almost no one had anticipated

Published on: 17 December 2022

Some players have risen to prominence during this World Cup in ways that few would have predicted. Footballghana.com highlights ten players who may now expect a significant career boost.

Azzedine Ounahi

The 22-year-old from SCO Angers was hardly recognized outside of France and his own country. The midfielder is reportedly valued at 45 million euros and is now being pursued by teams like FC Barcelona, FC Sevilla, and Leicester City. Former Spain coach Luis Enrique had this to say about Ounahi after Morocco beat Spain:

"I was pleasantly surprised by the number '8', I can't remember the name, I'm sorry...Where did that boy come from? He plays very well".

"Achraf and Ziyech are obvious, we know En-Nesyri well, we know Amrabat as well.... But this boy hasn't stopped running. We've talked about it in the staff. Spectacular,"

Sofyan Amrabat

Unlike Ounahi, Sofyan Amrabat, his defensive partner, was well-known internationally even before the World Cup. The six started a successful career as a player for Hellas Verona a few years ago, and then took a break to play for AC Fiorentina. With his accomplishments, the 26-year-old has already created genuine excitement about himself. Amrabat was unquestionably among the top six at the finals and is currently contending for positions at the best clubs.

Josip Juranovic

There were numerous well-known players in the Croatian starting lineups in this World Cup, including Josip Juranovic. Although the 27-year-old still works for Celtic Glasgow, that should soon change. Numerous Premier League clubs have expressed interest in Juranovic as a hard-running, attacking regular at the back right. Celtic expects a sale to generate at least $20 million.

Dominik Livakovic

Dominik Livakovic is the second notable Croatian discovery. Additionally, Modric and co advanced to the semifinals as a result of the number one goalkeeper's saves. With these qualities, the 27-year-old will soon depart Dinamo Zagreb.

Andries Noppert

Another goalkeeper, Andries Noppert, has the potential to be a game-changer. Actually, the goalkeeper had completed his professional career a few years ago, but due to competition injuries, Noppert has advanced to the quarter-finals as Oranje's main keeper. There's a significant likelihood the 28-year-old will leave SC Heerenveen and join Dutch Premier League club Ajax Amsterdam.

Niclas Füllkrug

Niclas Füllkrug is obviously not a nobody in Germany, but up until recently, the picture was a little bit different on the global stage. Suddenly, the Werder striker's two goals were covered in international newspapers. In essence, Füllkrug is at ease in Bremen, but the market is quite different now than it was a few weeks ago.

Luis Chavez

Although Mexico didn't go past the group stage, Luis Chávez made good use of the three group matches to promote himself. One of his team's top players on the six-yard line, the powerful left foot gave a fantastic highlight with a spectacular free kick. It's probable that the 26-year-old may now go from his own country for CF Pachuca and bravely cross the pond. The competition has already involved Bayer Leverkusen.

Harry Souttar

The Australians put a lot of heart into their fight and advanced to the round of 16, which was a first for Australia. This was largely due to the solid defense that was built around the unyielding defender Harry Souttar. The defender may now look forward to a personal progress from Stoke City of the English second tier to the Premier League.

Antonee Robinson

As a Fulham FC player, Antonee Robinson has already made the transition to England's top level, but up until now, he has mostly escaped recognition. The USA's impressive World Cup round of 16 results have altered that, though. The 25-year-old left defender is now getting attention from Newcastle United and Inter Milan for an estimated price of over 20 million euros.

Gue Sung Cho

Sometimes a day may dramatically transform a person's life. When Gue-sung Cho of South Korea scored two goals against Ghana on November 28, it must have been the date. Cho plays for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in South Korea, but this situation won't last for long.
